- Title
- 88-inch cyclotron magnet assembly shop
- Description
- 1500 man-hours of work were necessary to assemble these trimming coils that will be part of the new 88-inch cyclotron. The coils will help regulate the strength and shape of the accelerator's magnetic field. Here, the assembly shop men add final touches before soldering. Clockwise from left: Len Clevenger bends mineral-insulated cable, "Deek" Dietrich lays tubes that will carry cooling water, Ed Stuart tests the cables to determine their electrical resistance, and Walt Wenzel uses pliers to twist wires that hold a valley coil assembly in place.
