Seaborg's Comments

Once when Dr. Seaborg was enjoying a swim in the University Club pool, he was summoned directly from the clear chlorinated waters to receive a telephone call from President Johnson. At this time it was an exclusively male club and members frequently swam nude. "I didn't have time to even grab a towel because I knew whatever he wanted I'd have to react right away. He came up with some kind of proposal I knew wouldn't be feasible, but if I didn't talk him out of it right then I'd be in trouble... then, of course, I went back and continued my swim."
