Title
Part of the Advanced Light Source booster synchrotron
Description
Part of the Advanced Light Source booster synchrotron. The circular booster synchrotron gives a ÒboostÓ from an accelerating chamber (rf cavity) to the electrons each time they go around. In less than one second, the electrons have made 1,300,000 revolutions, are traveling at 99.999994% of the speed of light, have an energy of 1.5 billion electron volts, and are ready to be transported to the storage ring. The linac to booster to storage-ring sequence is repeated several hundred times to fill the storage ring to its operating current (normally 250-400 milliamps).
